Rehabilitation counseling is a profession that focuses on enhancing the lifespan development and functioning of persons with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. Rehabilitation counselors empower people with disabilities, helping them identify their strengths, build on their assets, and change the environment in which they function.

The Rehabilitation Counseling Program at the University of Massachusetts-Boston is designed to meet the growing demand for highly qualified professionals who will provide rehabilitation counseling services to consumers with disabilities from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds. The program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to assist people with mental, physical, or emotional disabilities, in achieving their personal and vocational goals. Multicultural and technology themes are woven into the curricula of all courses.
